Product description
Digoin-Sarreguemines is one of the French manufacturers that best managed to navigate the 20th century, maintaining a production of quality faience, accessible and rooted in daily use. Its dinnerware sets, recognizable by their neat printed decorations and the solidity of their glazing, graced generations of French tables. This deep serving dish belongs to the Bastia pattern, one of the manufacturer's most appealing designs. On a cream-white background, a blue-gray checkered border frames a scattering of burgundy roses and blue foliage, arranged with the lightness of a hand-tossed bouquet. The design is lively, the colors bold without being gaudy. The stamp under the base, BASTIA / DIGOIN / SARREGUEMINES, dates the piece to the 1950s-1960s, a period when the factory was still producing in its Lorraine and Burgundy workshops with consistent attention to glazing quality. With its 27 cm diameter, this deep dish is ideally sized for table service. Visible scratches on the base indicate past use, normal for a serving piece of this age. The glazing is intact, with no chips or cracks. The Bastia pattern is now sought after by collectors of antique French dinnerware. Its design, both understated and warm, fits equally well in a country kitchen or a contemporary interior that embraces a mix of styles. Circa .
