Product description
Charming antique compote dish in fine ironstone earthenware ("terre de fer"), "Marrons" model, from the Longchamp manufacture, French production from the early 20th century, circa 1910-1930. Polychrome hand-colored transfers of pretty chestnut leaf, burr, and chestnut motifs in black, brown, and green tones, on the inside, reverse, and foot, in an Art Nouveau style.
Height 11cm, cup diameter 23cm. The set is in very good overall condition, the earthenware has a slightly cream/ivory patina, and shows natural age-related crazing of the glaze. A discreet hairline crack on the rim is noted. Approximately 450 g.
