Private sellerProduct description
This is a vintage Chinese blanket chest, crafted from wood and featuring detailed, narrative carving. The piece of furniture combines storage space with a strong decorative character, making it a striking addition to any interior. The chest is a classic example of Asian craftsmanship.
The construction is of solid wood, presumably camphor wood, known for its durability and natural, moth-repellent properties. The entire surface, including the top, front, and sides, is adorned with carved panels depicting traditional Chinese scenes. These panels are accented with black borders, creating a beautiful contrast with the warm, brown wood color. The chest rests on four robustly carved legs in the shape of mythical figures and is finished with a centrally placed brass lock plate.
In addition to the large storage space under the lid, which is equipped with a ventilating grate, the chest also features multiple drawers on the front for extra organizational possibilities. The overall condition is good, with a patina consistent with the age and use of the furniture. This contributes to the authentic character of the piece.
This blanket chest is not only a practical storage solution for textiles or other belongings, for example, but also functions excellently as a unique coffee table or as a decorative element in a hallway or bedroom. It fits well within an eclectic, Bohemian, or Asian-inspired living style.
