Product description
Antique Dutch weather station, consisting of an aneroid (drum) barometer and an original mercury thermometer, dating from the period 1910–1930.
Description
• Origin & Maker: The dial mentions the name "Karel van Buren, Amsterdam". Van Buren was a well-known Jewish optician and instrument maker in Amsterdam.
• Style & Material: The casing is made of solid oak and is richly decorated with artisanal wood carving. The organic motifs—such as the tulips at the top and the stylized floral elements along the sides, indicate a transitional style between Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) and early Art Deco.
• Instruments:
At the top is a thermometer with a double
scale (Celsius and Fahrenheit).
At the bottom is the aneroid barometer with a glass pane,
brass mechanism and a Dutch-language dial plate
• Functionality: Barometer works perfectly
• Condition of the wood: The wood carving is completely intact and free from woodworm or deep scratches.
• Glassware: The glass for the barometer is undamaged and originally facet-cut.
• Overall length/height: 77 cm
• Largest width at the barometer: 23 cm
Very beautiful piece of 100-year-old Dutch craftsmanship with artisanal wood carving, completely in original condition.
