Pair of geometric Art Deco bookends in marble — France, 1930s. Beautiful pair of Art Deco bookends, with a resolutely geometric composition: a veined white marble disc (alabaster or Carrara marble) standing out against a rectangular plaque of spotted red/brown marble (griotte marble or similar), itself enhanced by a small square of white marble applied — a play of shapes and materials very representative of 1930s design. The whole rests on a rectangular black marble base, which stabilises and highlights the composition. Height 15.5 cm Width 16.5 cm Depth 7.5 cm Weight 2.5 kg each piece. In good condition.
