Product description
This is an original, framed screen print by the renowned Curaçao-Dutch artist Anton Vrede (1953). Anton Vrede's style is often described as part of the Nieuwe Wilden, a movement known for its spontaneous, raw, and colorful visual language. This original screen print (serigraph) dates from 1989, a highly sought-after and artistically strong period from his early oeuvre. The work bears the handwritten title "Sol-ya-koo" and is a fantastic example of Vrede's well-known 'jazz period' of the late 80s. The title is a playful and rhythmic nod to Dizzy Gillespie's iconic scat-jazz song "Ool-Ya-Koo" (1948), with the first letters poetically replaced by "Sol" (Sun), referring to the winking sun in the upper left of the composition. The work bursts with Caribbean energy with its bright, opaque layers of color (fuchsia, turquoise, green, and yellow) and the characteristic expressive contour lines in which man, sun, and animal come together in an intimate embrace. The Art is a screen print on paper and is part of a limited edition, numbered 13 of 80 copies, as visible in the lower left. In the lower right, the work is hand-signed and dated by the artist: 'A. Vrede '89'. The dimensions of the framed work are 92 cm wide and 122 cm high. The screen print itself has retained its beautiful, vibrant color intensity, and the ink lies perfectly opaque on the paper. The work is framed behind plexiglass with a passe-partout. Please note: As can be seen in the detail photos, the cardboard of the passe-partout in the lower corners shows remnants of moisture stains (foxing). To optimally protect the Art in the long term and allow it to fully shine again, it is recommended to replace the passe-partout with a new, acid-free one. The price has been adjusted accordingly. The original wooden interchangeable frame dates from the same period as the screen print and shows some scratches and signs of wear appropriate for its age. A unique opportunity for lovers of modern graphics and colorful interior eye-catchers! With its considerable size and powerful appearance, this Art is a statement piece that fits perfectly in a modern, eclectic, or industrial interior. It can serve as an impressive eye-catcher in a living room, hallway, or office space. Due to the size of the work, it cannot be sent by regular parcel post. Pick-up in Hoorn is preferred, or use of a courier service. Delivery at a reduced rate is possible in consultation in the Amsterdam and Noord-Holland region.
