Product description
Antique bronze Buddha statue, probably made in Nepal or the broader Himalayan region. The Buddha is seated in a meditation pose and touches the earth with his right hand in bhumisparsha mudra: the gesture referring to the moment the earth bore witness to his enlightenment. The left hand rests palm upwards in the lap. Notable is the richly detailed, openwork base. Elephants and a central figure are incorporated among the decorative elements. This lively base architecture gives the statue a distinct altar-like character and distinguishes it from simpler devotional bronzes. The statue is traditionally hollow cast and hand-finished. The surface shows a warm gold to olive-brown patina, dark deposits, and localized greenish and reddish oxidation traces. In the recessed areas and around the joins, signs of age and use are visible, consistent with a historical ritual object. The underside reveals the original casting structure and old core residues. The compact modeling, iconography, and decorative base point to a Himalayan workshop, likely Nepal. An exact attribution remains cautious without additional provenance information.
