An antique earthenware hanging pot or plant hanger, crafted in the tradition of Gouds plateel with a hand-painted decor. This piece is a beautiful example of Dutch pottery/Dutch plateel style from the Art Nouveau period between 1910-1930, characterized by its organic forms and vibrant, hand-painted decoration with leaf and floral motifs. The pot is made of ceramic with a deep black matte background that serves as a contrast for the stylized floral motifs and is clearly inspired by the Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) and Deco styles that flourished in Gouda. The palette includes shades of red, green, orange, purple, and blue, accented with golden contour lines that define the design. The inside is finished with a dark green glaze. The pot comes with its original metal chains for hanging, completing its authentic look. For its age, this hanging pot is in good, preserved condition. The glaze is intact, and the colors are still bright. The metal chains show a patina consistent with age and contribute to the historical character of the object, but are no longer intact. Even though there are no markings on the bottom, it is still Gouds plateel (or made in a similar Dutch pottery factory such as Arnhem, Distel, or Schoonhoven). Some series were produced in bulk without individual stamps to save time. This decorative hanging pot is a charming addition to an interior with classic, Art Nouveau, or eclectic influences. It is an ideal object to present a plant in and adds a touch of Dutch design history to any space.
