Product description
An impressive and monumental oil painting by the renowned Dutch artist JAS (Johannes Adrianus Smit, 1945–2002). This powerful, expressive work from 1988 is titled "time" and depicts an abstracted female nude.
The painting clearly reflects the influence of international abstract expressionism and evokes strong stylistic associations with Willem de Kooning's famous 'Women' series. JAS was known for refusing to work with standard tube paints; he created his own pasty, soft paint types. This is beautifully visible on the canvas through the dynamic, thick layers of texture applied with great precision.
The canvas is in excellent, original condition and is signed on the front, lower left. The back of the canvas has been fully documented by the artist himself, ensuring impeccable provenance.
