Product description
This is a set of two Plia folding chairs, designed by Giancarlo Piretti for the Italian manufacturer Anonima Castelli. The design, dating from 1967, is considered an icon of Italian design and is included in the collection of the MoMA in New York.
The chairs are made with a chrome-plated steel frame and a seat and backrest of transparent, smoke-brown plastic. The ingenious three-point hinge system was revolutionary for its time and ensures that the chair can be folded very flat. This makes the Plia not only an aesthetic object but also an extremely functional and space-saving piece of furniture.
The set is in good vintage condition, with a character appropriate for its age. The chrome retains its shine, and the overall construction is solid, testifying to the durable quality for which Castelli is known. The slight transparency of the plastic gives the chairs an airy appearance.
These versatile folding chairs are a stylish addition to various interiors, from modern to eclectic. They can serve as extra seating in a living room, as dining chairs, or as an elegant accent in a home office or bedroom.
Small tear in the backrest.
