Product description
Hand-painted ceramic bowl, made by Deruta in the 1950s. 22 cm and 21 cm diameter, 10 cm height. Deruta ceramics are one of the most authentic and appreciated expressions of Italian craftsmanship. Originating from the eponymous Umbrian town, this art form boasts a millennial tradition that has been handed down from generation to generation, maintaining the charm and beauty of its creations intact. The origins of Deruta ceramics are lost in the mists of time. Already in Roman times, kilns for the production of terracotta objects were present in the area. However, it was in the Middle Ages that Deruta ceramic art reached its peak, thanks to the influence of Arabs and Byzantines who introduced new techniques and decorations. Deruta ceramics are distinguished by the vibrant and intense colors used, obtained through the use of natural metallic oxides such as copper, cobalt, and manganese. The decorations are rich and varied, inspired by nature, mythology, and daily life. Among the most recurrent motifs are flowers, fruits, animals, and human figures. Most Deruta ceramics are made using the majolica technique, which consists of covering the object with a white glaze and decorating it with colored glazes.
