During his career, Olsen created numerous designs for Norwegian companies, including appliances for AS Elektro-Hønefoss, furniture for LK Hjelle and lighting fixtures for Noral. One of Olsen's best-known creations is the Luxo L-1 lamp, designed in 1937. This desk lamp has become an icon of Norwegian industrial design, and is famous for its flexibility and ease of use. The Luxo L-1 lamp is exhibited in many museums and galleries around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Olsen has won numerous awards throughout his career, including the King of Sweden's Litteris et Artibus prize in 1986 and the Jacob-prisen prize in 2008 for lifetime achievement in industrial design.
