After studying at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Ulm, a renowned design school in Germany, Lange began his career working as a designer for Braun AG. He then worked for the office equipment company Olivetti before joining Hülsta in 1964. At Hülsta, Lange worked closely with the company's management to create modern, functional furniture that helped make Hülsta one of Germany's most innovative furniture manufacturers in the 1960s and 1970s. In particular, he designed the famous "Futura" furniture series, which was very popular in the 1970s. Over the years, Lange has won numerous awards for his industrial design work, including the German Industrial Design Award in 1974 and the Hannover Fair Award in 1975. He also taught industrial design at Hamburg's University of Applied Arts. Gerd Lange is considered one of the most influential industrial designers of his time. His creations helped shape the aesthetics of modern German design, and his work is still admired and collected today.
