In the 1950s and 1960s, Kirkegaard designed a series of lightweight, elegant wooden chairs, including the famous "Siesta" chair. This bentwood chair is known for its curved backrest, which offers comfortable support for the head and back. The "Siesta" chair became an icon of Danish design and was mass-produced for many years. Kirkegaard also worked on rattan furniture, including armchairs and sofas, which became very popular in the 1960s and 1970s. His rattan creations were known for their lightness and elegance, as well as their comfort. Erik Kirkegaard won several awards for his design work, including the prize for best lounge chair at the Milan International Furniture Fair in 1960.
