He was born in Liège, Belgium, in 1903. After studying at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Liège, he moved to Paris to work with the famous French designer Le Corbusier. In the 1920s, Jacob began designing modernist furniture, characterized by its simplicity, functionality and use of modern materials such as steel and glass. He was also one of the first designers to use chromed steel tubing in furniture manufacture. In 1929, he designed the "Steelwood" chair, which has become one of his most iconic designs. This chair, with its wooden seat and backrest and chromed steel frame, was mass-produced by the Belgian furniture company "Gazza". During the Second World War, Jacob worked for the Belgian government as an industrial designer, creating equipment and furniture for the armed forces. After the war, Jacob continued to work as an industrial designer, creating furniture for numerous Belgian companies. He died in 1968 at the age of 65.
