During his time at Royal Copenhagen, Balslev designed several series of porcelain tableware, including the popular "Blue Fluted" series, which was introduced in 1775 and is still in production today. He also worked on glassware projects for the renowned Danish design company Holmegaard. Over the years, Balslev has won numerous awards for his design work, including the Grand Prix at the Brussels World Fair in 1958 and the gold medal at the Milan Triennale in 1960. Today, he is considered one of the greatest Danish designers of the post-war period.
