Antique painted plaster mask, depicting a sad Pierrot or clown face, with its characteristic black tears, red glittery mouth and expressive aged finish.
This type of mask is inspired by the Italian commedia dell'arte tradition, and more specifically by the melancholy figure of Pierrot, popularized in 19th and 20th century European theater, mime and visual culture. It could also be related to certain Venetian handicrafts or street theater creations of the 70s and 90s.
