Beautiful artwork in a double frame. The work in a wooden frame was originally incorporated into a larger frame with glass.
Mixed media paint on a rough type of canvas.
Rudi Pillen (Moen, January 6, 1931 – Blankenberge, March 24, 2014) was a Belgian artist.
From 1949, he studied fine arts at the Sint-Lucas School in Ghent. Six years after his first visit to Africa in 1956, he went to live in Zaire, only to return 13 years later.
Pillen's work reflects a great deal of creativity. Over a period of more than 50 years, his work evolved from expressionism—inspired by his stay in Africa—to contemporary modern art. The influence of African culture is particularly recognizable in the colorful scenes. The human figure is central to his work. Figures are never fixed to the ground but “float.”
His most famous work can be seen at the “Thailand Cultural Centre” in the Bangkok metro. A work on a canvas measuring 2 meters by 10 meters was unveiled there by Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz of Belgium. In the past, his works have also been exhibited in San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Paris, Kinshasa, and Johannesburg, among others.
In 2006, a report was made about Rudi Pillen for an ATV television program.
