Vintage Barcelona Knoll Armchair in black leather.
The Barcelona Armchair was designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe on the occasion of the Barcelona World Exhibition in 1929 for the German pavilion. The Barcelona armchair is an icon of industrial design and embodies Mies van der Rohe's most famous motto "less is more".
The armchair is made with innovative materials for the time, such as steel, much loved by Mies.
The cushion consists of 40 squares, all different, cut by hand and sewn with topstitched buttons. Girths have been re-tightened, filling is original natural rubber.
The panels are made of the same cut leather as are the loops in the back and the buckle under the seat cushion.
It was redesigned in 1950 (the architect made some minor changes to the materials used) and marketed three years later by the Knoll company, which still owns the manufacturing rights
The proposed armchair is more than 50 years old and comes from a villa in Rotterdam and was purchased from the first owner.
The conditions of use are excellent and it is characterized by the charm of the patina typical of vintage design objects. Chrome and leather have signs of wear corresponding to the age of the armchair.
