The Knoll Studio Barcelona Chair is an iconic design by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. In 1929, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was commissioned to design the German Pavilion for the Barcelona World's Fair. He created a rhythmic whole, centered around the Barcelona Chair, then known as the MR90. The characteristic cross frame is based on curule chairs from ancient Rome and is combined with contemporary materials. The graceful frame is fashioned from chrome, hand-polished to a mirror-like finish. The backrest and seat are interwoven with bands of cowhide, dyed in the same color as the seat cushions. These foam cushions are upholstered in top-quality leather. All 40 panels are hand-hemmed and buttoned, all from a single piece of leather. Although the chair was initially produced in Germany, Mies granted the production rights to his good friend Florence Knoll in 1948. A signature and KnollStudio logo can be found on the frame. The only thing that has changed since the first version is the comfort, which has been significantly improved with extra padding. The Barcelona Chair is 75 centimeters wide, 77 centimeters high, and 77 centimeters deep. The seat height is 43 centimeters.
with some signs of use/wear spots that only give the chair more character.
