The Knoll International Womb Chair is a design by Eero Saarinen. After mastering veneer bending in the early 1940s, Saarinen wanted to further develop the idea that a chair could also be comfortable through the shape of its seat, rather than its cushions. Florence Knoll inspired him to create a true armchair, one you could curl up in. This meant abandoning the idea of a chair without cushions. He began working with fiberglass-reinforced plastic, a material still in its infancy at the time. A boat builder was also employed to achieve the exact shape desired. In this updated version, the interior is constructed of metal and elastic bands. This is covered with polyurethane foam with a choice of upholstery. Ultimately, the name Womb—English for womb—reflects the feeling this chair provides.
A safe, soft, and secure feeling. Womb is 105 centimeters wide, 92 centimeters high, and 94 centimeters deep. The seat height is 43.5 centimeters. To complete the look, add the matching ottoman! The metal base has a polished chrome finish.
