Inspired by the Dutch De Stijl movement and Soviet Constructivism, Marcel Breuer created a radically avant-garde design with the B3 in 1925. The Wassily Chair became a prime example of modern living and remains an icon of modernism to this day.
Breuer, then head of the furniture workshop at the Bauhaus in Dessau, immigrated to the USA in 1933 due to his Jewish heritage. There, he co-founded the architecture department at Harvard University with Walter Gropius and rose to become one of the most renowned architects of his generation worldwide.
