Description
An innovative design by Finnish-American architect and designer Eero Saarinen from 1948. The Womb Chair is now one of the great icons of mid-century design.
Eero Saarinen's father, Eliel Saarinen, was director of the Cranbrook Academy, now considered the cradle of modern American design. Here, the paths of Florence Knoll, Harry Bertoia, Eero Saarinen, and Charles Eames crossed, resulting in a close friendship and collaboration between the artists.
Saarinen's most famous architectural works include the Gateway Arch in St. Louis and the TWA Flight Center at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York.
