This extraordinary accent lamp with a dragon-patterned shade was upcycled from a striking Scheurich Keramik fireplace vase dating back to the 1960s/70s. The "Fat Lava" vase exemplifies the experimental studio ceramics of that era: sculptural relief structures, earthy glaze gradients, and a powerful design language.
The rectangular base with its distinctive neck lends the lamp a sculptural presence, making it a striking design object. This vase shape was very popular from the 1960s onward and was known as a "fireplace vase" because the neck resembles a chimney.
Vase dimensions:
Height approx. 25 cm
Total height with shade approx. 52 cm
Shade 30 x 30 cm
The large lampshade (30 cm diameter) is covered with high-quality Japanese cotton fabric. The traditional dragon pattern on a deep, dark background combines Far Eastern symbolism with modern interior design. Dragons are a popular motif in Japanese mythology, symbolizing strength, energy, and protection.
The warm light creates a unique ambiance: the fabric's texture remains visible, while the dragon motif is subtly highlighted. The shade is handcrafted by Roomlight Studio.
Conversion to a lamp is completely painless:
• No drilling required
• No irreversible modifications
• Original collector's value is preserved
• Classic E27 socket in black
• Cable operation with a transparent cable up to 120 volts
