A beautiful set of two vintage armchairs, produced by the quality brand De Ster Geldermalsen in the 1960s. We picked up this set in Riemst, Belgium, from the estate of the original owners. The daughter told us she vividly remembers spending hours on it as a child.
The original plan was to have the set reupholstered, but due to a busy life, that never happened—you know how it goes. By then, the reupholstery was definitely needed: the upholstery was full of tears and stains, and the foam had largely turned to dust due to age. The frames were also in need of a freshening up.
A significant project, but one we're not afraid to tackle. Our upholsterer fitted the set with new webbing, new seat and back cushions, and a beautiful ochre-yellow bouclé upholstery called Odense. A nod to the original (yellow) upholstery and a perfect match with the warm wood of the frames.
The teak frames have been refurbished, retaining their beautiful patina. They've been cleaned and refinished, but we've deliberately left minor dents and signs of wear. We believe this adds to the set's character and charm. After all, every detail tells a story.
The organically shaped frames give the armchairs an elegant look, and the seating is truly fantastic—the kind of armchair you can truly lose yourself in. The design is distinctly mid-century, yet feels timeless, making it equally suitable for a modern interior. A rare set with a rich history. Dutch design to be proud of, and it's marked!
