Johan Nieuwborg is a Belgien (Diest) born artist. He creates by using recycled materials, shells, stones, glass, buttons, wire, copper, paper and more. The most disparate matierals recycled observing the divers facets and thinking about an object of compound forms. Nieuwborg succeeds in creating sculptures that give back forms of grotesque insects, but he tries not to make them small. It is half scary and half comic. And Nieuwborg thinks this gives the used materials a wonderful balance. A work of art is good if it demands your attention and if there is something new to discover every day. Nieuwborg is a conviced self thaught artist. In his words: “Being an artist is not something you can learn. You can get an art education, but ultimately… whether you were born an artist or not. There are many arts education programs, but the demand is greater than the supply. It is strange that if you look at history, you notice that most of the great artists have hardly received any training or have even been rejected … this was the case, for example, with Vincent van Gogh, who was refused by the art academy of Antwerp and Brussels. In addition, works that are considered great art today were not recognized when the artist in question was alive. The amount of time I spend on a particular work of art is irrelevant… each work is a life’s work. This object has the signature of Nieuwborg and it is in good condition.Goede conditie
