Product description
Monumental, single-trunk wooden statue of a bodhisattva/Guanyin in prayer position, with original polychrome remnants and beautiful age patina (crazing, wear, and discoloration). A rare, atmospheric piece with a distinct temple/devotional feel.
This imposing wooden statue (approx. 128 cm tall) is hand-carved from a single solid tree trunk and depicts a bodhisattva/Guanyin with folded hands in prayer position. The figure wears an ornately carved crown with floral motifs and a draped robe with deep pleats.
The ancient polychromy is still visible in several layers and areas (including the face and robe), with a natural crazing and patina that only comes with age and use. The whole exudes tranquility and dignity and is a true eye-catcher both as an art object and in an interior (wabi-sabi, japandi, eclectic).
Dating & Origin: Based on style and material, probably 19th century (possibly late Qing) / 19th–early 20th century, China or Southeast Asia. (Exact dating/attribution without further documentation remains an estimate.)
