A watercolor by the Amsterdam painter Jan Korthals (1916-1972). Korthals mainly worked in the Impressionist style. His style is strongly influenced by his great examples Breitner and Mackenzie.
His work often consists of cityscapes, including Amsterdam and Paris. But the water in a broad sense also attracted him. The views from the water, as here, in calm shades of blue, in Antwerp in the mid-1960s had his interest.
He followed his artistic training at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp.
His teachers were Hendricus IJkelenstam and Jos Rovers.
