Godfried Pieters (1936) was born in Bunde (South of Limburg, the Netherlands) and was educated at the City Academy for Applied Arts and the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht. His oeuvre shows a great preference for the human figure in the form of torsos and heads and for nature, in which he depicted fish, birds, but also plants and tubers in a realistic style. Godfridus Mathias Pieters often worked in stone types such as marble and diabase, but also in wood, glass and gold. In 1965 he received a travel grant from the Ministry of OKW so that he could make study trips to France and Germany. This work is called ‘abstract woman on a ball’ and dates from the 1960s. The title is more or less a description of the sculpture itself though many of us would indicate the ball as an apple. Object is in beautiful condition!
