Product description
Giosetta Fioroni, a leading figure in Italian Pop Art, was the only woman in the Piazza del Popolo School. Along with artists such as Schifano, Festa, and Angeli, and intellectuals such as Fellini and Pasolini, she transformed 1960s Rome into a center of the avant-garde. Unlike Warhol's American Pop Art, Roman Pop Art was cultured, artisanal, and poetic: it did not celebrate consumerism, but drew on historical memory and the Renaissance, maintaining a strong material component and a focus on personal experience. The work pictured is the multi-material silkscreen print Doppio Liberty (Violet). The female face, a central theme for the artist, appears doubled and fragmented within an oval frame. Through the use of carborundum, which lends depth and texture, Fioroni distances herself from American industrial coldness to embrace a more intimate and melancholic dimension. - Signature and numbering (Exemplary L/Z) in pencil on the front - Artist's stamp on the front - Certificate of authenticity and provenance by Spirale Milano Editore - Perfect condition - Work without frame ********************* Giosetta Fioroni, a leading figure in Italian Pop Art, was the only woman in the Piazza del Popolo School.
