Product description
Description: Presenting a remarkably well-preserved, authentic two-piece set of rural European history, sourced directly from a village estate in Transylvania, Romania. Dating back over 100 years to the late 19th or early 20th century, this pairing represents the absolute core of traditional Carpathian peasant self-sufficiency: domestic textile weaving and traditional hearth baking. Piece 1: Primitive Wooden 'Sucală' (Yarn/Flax Winding Box) This traditional textile tool was used to wind processed flax, hemp, or wool yarn onto bobbins prior to weaving on a household loom. Construction: Features masterful, hand-cut dense finger joints (box joints) designed to withstand heavy vibration. Mechanism: Complete with its original hand-carved wooden drive wheel and integrated iron spindle shaft. Condition: Structural joints remain incredibly sturdy. The wood boasts a rich, naturally darkened patina from decades of handling. Piece 2: Hand-Hewn 'Lopată de Pâine' (Bread Shovel / Baker's Peel) Carved from a single, solid slab of native hardwood, this paddle was utilized to slide large sourdough loaves into deep, wood-fired clay brick ovens. Feature Detail: Driven by the extreme heat of the hearth, a natural split formed along a wood knot. Rather than discarding it, a local village blacksmith executed a magnificent "period-correct" repair. The front shows a heavy hand-forged iron staple stitched across the grain, securely locked on the reverse side via a primitive, flattened twisted-wire technique. Condition: Completely stable, solid, and dripping with authentic rustic wabi-sabi character.
