A stunning ceramic vase produced by Søholm Stentøj, an iconic manufacturer from the island of Bornholm in Denmark.
This model, reference number 3113, is a creation of the Danish designer Einar Johansen, whose signature “EJ” is visible on the base, in addition to the original Søholm Stentøj stamp.
The piece has a low, generous shape, ideal as a centerpiece, with a rhythmic and highly graphic relief decoration.
The particularly successful glaze displays rich, deep brown hues with bluish-green drips, typical of Scandinavian production from the 1960s.
Einar Johansen was a Danish ceramicist trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, active in Scandinavian design during the mid-20th century.
He collaborated with the Søholm factory between 1958 and 1966, where he created stoneware pieces with sculptural forms and nuanced glazes. His works, now highly sought after, are distinguished by an artistic approach influenced by his training as a painter.
The handcrafted nature of the piece (marked "handmade" on the base) gives each piece a slight variation in the glaze, making each one unique.
