This beautiful authentic Japanese Satsuma vase dates from the late Meiji period (late 19th / early 20th century).
The vase is in rare, perfect condition without chips, cracks, or restorations, and the refined gold plating is excellently preserved.
The vase is originally signed on the bottom by the renowned Kusube studio.
The vase is an absolute eye-catcher thanks to the detailed scene of two elegant court ladies (bijin) in a bamboo garden. The details on the clothing are applied with fine goldwork (moriage technique). The deep cobalt blue creates a fantastic, chic contrast with the characteristic cream crackle glaze.
The deep cobalt blue glaze layer is decorated with fine gold details of traditional Japanese motifs, including:
* Kikko-mon: The honeycomb/turtle shell motif that symbolizes happiness and a long life.
* Momiji: Elegantly drawn Japanese maple leaves, the symbol of autumn and natural beauty. This vase is perfect for styling in an eclectic, modern, or Hollywood Regency-style interior!
