For sale is a striking early 20th century modernist oil on canvas titled "Le Char Flamand" by Swiss artist and illustrator Géa Augsbourg (1902-1974). The piece is signed, titled and dated "XI - 1932" and is inscribed on the reverse side "30 rue Dutot" (address in the 15th arrondissement of Paris). The painting is unframed and is in reasonable original condition, commensurate with its age and use (see photos).Géa Augsbourg, pseudonym of Georges-Charles Augsburger, was a Swiss modernist illustrator, painter and graphic artist, known in part for his collaboration as an illustrator with Jean Cocteau and for his work with the Charles Veillon Foundation. He exhibited at the prestigious Salon des Surindépendants in 1929, received the Franco-Swiss Art Prize in 1937, and his work has been the subject of several monographs and retrospectives, including on his centennial in 2002 and, more recently, in 2013-2014.
