Product description
“Still Life with Lilies” Stephen Kaye, Contemporary, late 20th century – United States Technique: Acrylic on canvas Title: “Still Life with Lilies” Artist: Stephen Kaye Signed in the lower right corner Genre: Still Life Period: Late 20th century Country of origin: United States Good condition considering its age and use Overall dimensions: 129 x 104 x 3 cm Dimensions without frame: 126 x 100 cm A stunning still life of flowers, gladioli or lilies, arranged diagonally upwards by the contemporary artist Stephen Kaye, from the late 20th century. It features a series of flowers against an abstract background, lacking defined space, in shades of gray and lilac. The flowers seem to emerge from nothing, creating an immersive and striking atmosphere. This is a modern reinterpretation of the still life genre, which originated in antiquity, although it gained significant prominence in Western art during the 17th century, as it allowed for much greater compositional freedom than other pictorial genres, such as landscape or portraiture. Also known as nature morte, still lifes typically feature animals, flowers, fruits, food, plants, and other objects, often with symbolic, religious, and allegorical content. Their development is situated within the context of a growing appreciation for painting and an explosion of interest in naturalism and the imitation of nature. Over the centuries, and with changing attitudes, the still life became a perfect field for experimentation. Many artists (Cézanne, Picasso) used the genre for their artistic experimentation and free, decidedly modern interpretations, or because they were drawn to its symbolism. These works allude to the transient nature of human existence. In this case, through a work full of quick, loose brushstrokes and a heavy impasto technique, he creates textures and contrasts of light. Stephen Kaye is a contemporary American artist, primarily known for his prolific output of oil and acrylic paintings, which were very popular in the late 20th century (1980s and 1990s). He maintains a focus on floral themes, vases, and soft landscapes, often using the impasto technique, which gives the painting a thick texture and relief. Shipping costs will be paid by the buyer according to the dimensions, weight, and destination. Shipping costs include professional, custom-made packaging and personalized delivery with tracking and warranty. The frame protecting the artwork is offered as a gift, but it has intrinsic value. It is provided at no additional cost so that your artwork can be displayed immediately upon arrival at your home or destination. Any damage to the frame itself, which does not affect the integrity of the artwork, cannot be accepted as a valid reason for opening a claim or requesting a cancellation.
