A stunning still life of flowers, gladioli or lilies, arranged diagonally upwards by the contemporary artist Stephen Kaye, from the late 20th century. It features a series of flowers against an abstract background, lacking defined space, in shades of gray and lilac. The flowers seem to emerge from nothing, creating an immersive and striking atmosphere.
This is a modern reinterpretation of the still life genre, which originated in antiquity, although it gained significant prominence in Western art during the 17th century, as it allowed for much greater compositional freedom than other pictorial genres, such as landscape or portraiture.
