An artistically designed Barbara relief in the center of the bowl, featuring the martyr's attributes of a tower and sword. She is the patron saint of girls! Probably from the 1960s Weight: 2.948 kg Height: 4 cm Dimensions: 23.7 x 23.4 cm In very good condition I guarantee careful packaging +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ BACKGROUND: Barbara was a very beautiful and clever young woman. Her father, Dioscuros, tried to shield her from the outside world by confining her in a specially built tower. Many young men from Nicomedia sought her hand in marriage, but Barbara rejected their proposals. In her father's absence, Barbara embraced the Christian faith and chose to live as a hermit in a bathhouse her father had constructed. She added a third window as a tribute to the Holy Trinity. Furious upon discovering his daughter's conversion to Christianity, Dioscuros attempted to kill her. During her escape, a rock opened up before Barbara, but a shepherd betrayed her. Captured and brought before a judge, she was sentenced to death and tortured. Dioscuros himself beheaded his daughter and was then struck by lightning. BARBARA DAY: The feast day of Saint Barbara is celebrated during Advent on December 4th. PATRONAGES: Saint Barbara is one of the 14 Holy Helpers. She is especially invoked for protection against sudden death and as a comfort to the dying. She is also called upon during thunderstorms and to guard against fire hazards. The martyr is a patroness of various professions, most notably miners, particularly in traditional mining regions such as Saxony, Thuringia, Silesia, Bohemia, and the Ruhr area, where miners hold her in high esteem. Additionally, she is the patron saint of architects, tower guards, firefighters, artillerymen, bell founders, demolition experts, and is considered a guardian of girls, prisoners, and the dying.
