Op-Art Studio Glass Bowl after a Design by Hans Wudy for Glasfachschule Zwiesel, Germany, 2012
A striking studio glass bowl designed and produced at the renowned Glasfachschule Zwiesel in 2012 after a design by Hans Wudy (born 1954), former director of the school and one of Germany's most respected contemporary glass designers and educators.
Executed in glossy black glass with a luminous opal-orange overlay suspended at its centre, the bowl possesses a remarkable visual depth. The vivid orange inclusion appears to float within the dark body, creating an effect reminiscent of a solar eclipse, a distant planet, or a glowing celestial halo.
Its restrained circular form and bold colour contrast give the piece a distinctly modernist character. Depending on the angle of light, the orange centre seems to shift in intensity, transforming the bowl into a dynamic sculptural object rather than a purely functional vessel.
