Op-Art Inspired Studio Glass Bowl – Glasfachschule Zwiesel, Hans Wudy – Germany, 2012
A bold, sculptural bowl combining graphic clarity with modernist depth, this signed studio piece was designed and produced at the Glasfachschule Zwiesel in 2012. It follows a concept by Hans Wudy (b. 1954), glass designer and former director of the Zwiesel school, known for his synthesis of Bauhaus principles with contemporary formalism.
Executed in glossy black glass with a striking inlaid orange-red center, the bowl evokes celestial forms—solar eclipses, or planetary halos—rendered in pure geometry. The opal-orange inclusion inside the dark body creates a floating visual effect, with light and shadow playing across its immaculate curves. An archetypal example of pedagogic excellence in postwar German glass education.
