Mid-Century Danish Ceramic Plate by Michael Andersen & Marianne Starck – Crackled 'Persia' Glaze
A striking piece of Danish mid-century ceramic design from the renowned Michael Andersen studio on the island of Bornholm. This hand-decorated rectangular plate features the distinctive "Persia" glaze—an artistic signature of ceramicist Marianne Starck (1922–2007), who served as artistic director at Michael Andersen & Sons from 1955 through the 1980s.
The plate's surface showcases a deep cobalt blue floral motif, subtly abstracted and rhythmically balanced, laid against a finely craquelured white glaze. The saturated glaze edges and the softly rounded rectangular shape create a harmonious interplay of geometry and texture.
Marked underside with the three-fish logo, model number 5482, and Starck’s monogram MS, confirming her hand in its design.
Dimensions: approx. 23 × 16 cm
Height: approx. 3.5 cm
Origin: Bornholm, Denmark
Condition: Excellent vintage condition with intentional craquelure; no chips, cracks, or restorations.
This piece is a beautiful example of the studio’s refined approach to craft—where utility meets poetry in every curve and cobalt line.
