Holmegaard “Provence” Bowl by Per Lütken – Denmark, 1950s
Ø 34 cm – Cobalt Blue
A modern classic of Danish glass design, this large, hand-blown bowl belongs to the iconic “Provence” series created in 1955 by the legendary Per Lütken (1916–1998), chief designer at Holmegaard Glasværk for over four decades.
Crafted in vibrant cobalt blue, the bowl is shaped with a single fluid gesture—its thick rim forming a perfect circular contour around a sunken center. Lütken’s hallmark is evident in the confident, sculptural form: organic, yet precise; functional, yet sensuous. The size—an impressive 34 cm in diameter—makes it ideal as a fruit or salad bowl, or as a striking decorative piece for a credenza or windowsill.
Each Provence bowl is mouth-blown and manually shaped, making no two pieces entirely identical. Though available in various sizes and colours (clear, smoke grey, blue), this larger version in deep blue is particularly sought-after.
