Exclusive coffee table from the 1970s from the German furniture manufacturer Ronald Schmitt in Eberbach. The most striking and unique thing about this table is the fossil stone top; originating from the Devonian: a geological period for which we have to go back three and a half million years! This fossil table top in gray-green color tones is inlaid in a beautiful solid teak frame.
From the founding of his studio in 1958, Ronald Schmitt was not averse to experimenting with special materials such as mosaic, stone, glass and steel. In 1971 he bought a batch of fossil rock from a friendly supplier in Morocco (see the last photo). It was brought by ship to Germany where production of a series of special and unique coffee tables soon started; each with its own fossil record.
The age and authenticity of the rock - and the slabs that were sawn from it - was examined and confirmed by the head of the Geological Institute of the University of Heidelberg, Prof. Dr. W. Simon. For this reason, each table top was awarded a Certificate of Authenticity with a description of the fossilized plants or animals that can actually be seen in the table top. This coffee table has the expertise/certificate number F0129. Of course you get this with it.
This combination of wood and stone is heavy and cannot be shipped. You must collect it from the store or have it delivered by us for a fee (throughout the Netherlands, except the Wadden Islands).
The condition of this table is exceptionally beautiful; no signs of use or damage.
