The Red and Blue Chair, also known as the Rietveld Chair, was designed around 1918-1923 by furniture maker Gerrit Rietveld. Today, alongside the Rietveld Schroeder House and Mondrian's asymmetrical compositions from the 1920s, the chair is considered a textbook example of the De Stijl art movement.
In 1971, the heirs sold the rights to the chair to the Italian company Cassina, which resumed production in 1972. Due to the machine production, all the chairs from this company have the same dimensions.
The chair offered here from the Cassina production, purchased at the Bijenkorf in The Hague in the late 1970s, is in good condition, with some minor signs of wear (see photos).
