An exceptional and collectible dining set from Cassina's early I Maestri collection, based on designs by Frank Lloyd Wright and produced in close collaboration with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. This set is one of the early, numbered re-editions from 1986–1989 and stands out from the more familiar wooden models due to its rare steel construction and striking, postmodern design language. The ensemble consists of a round table with a clear glass top and two matching chairs, whose graphic construction in blue lacquered steel creates a powerful presence. Characteristic features include the circular backrests with vertical segmentation and the finely crafted triangular elements, which are found in both the chairs and the table frame. The delicate, almost graphic lines create a captivating interplay of lightness and structure, directly reminiscent of Wright's principles of geometry and rhythm. The original Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation markings and a low serial number, 0132, are visible on the underside.
... The chairs feature upholstered seats in a finely checked fabric, creating a deliberate contrast to the austere metal frame and lending the set a more inviting feel. The undersides of the chairs bear the original Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation markings as well as low serial numbers 0442 and 0474, indicating early production within the first edition and significantly underscoring their collector's value. A rare and expressive design object, ideal as a statement piece in a curated interior or as a highlight in a design collection.
Condition: Very good, used condition with minor age-related wear to the finish and minimal wear to the upholstery. Overall, the chairs are stable, original, and exceptionally well-preserved.
