Aralia Corner Sofa by Michel Ducaroy for Ligne Roset First edition July 1979 original chocolat dark brown leather corner sofa Designed by Michel Ducaroy for Ligne Roset, the Aralia is one of the most sculptural and least encountered seating designs from Ducaroy’s radical late 1970s period. Produced in far smaller numbers than the Togo or Kashima, the Aralia was conceived for architectural interiors where volume, rhythm and material presence were central. This is an exceptionally rare corner configuration, a variant produced only on limited special order and almost never seen on the market. The original stamp on the underlining reads 07/1979, confirming this piece as a documented first edition. Early Aralia examples in this configuration are virtually unobtainable today. The sofa is upholstered in original chocolat dark brown leather from 1979. The leather shows scratches, marks and surface variations consistent with nearly 50 years of use. These traces are entirely normal for a sofa of this age and contribute to an honest, untouched patina, confirming that the piece has never been reupholstered. The original stitching, panel layout and vertical channeling are fully preserved. The internal foam structure remains intact and well balanced, retaining the correct volume, comfort and silhouette. The matching ottoman is included, and the complete set comes from the first owner, reinforcing the integrity and provenance of this rare ensemble. A perfect example of Michel Ducaroy’s more architectural and exclusive work, defined by first edition status, extreme rarity and originality.
