Dümler & Breiden. The factory began production in 1883 and was located in Höhr-Grenzhausen, a town known for its many ceramic factories. The founders were Peter Dümler (November 7, 1860 – April 19, 1907) and his brother-in-law Albert Breiden (June 12, 1860 – May 27, 1926). Peter was a designer and had been trained by Reinhold Hanke & Simon Peter Gerz. Albert, who had been trained by his uncle S.P. Gerz, ran the company. Peter died in 1907, and Albert took over the company with the help of Bertha, Peter's widow. Paul Dümler, Peter's son, followed in his father's footsteps and designed the Terra Sigillata series (the work was based on a style of ancient Roman pottery). His career, however, was very short, as he did not return from the war. In 1918, a nephew, Ernst Dümler, joined the company and took his place. By 1913, Albert had sold his share in the company. After World War I, Albert, with the help of his two sons, Adolf and Hermann, led the S.P. Gerz company. Albert died in May 1926 at the age of 65, and Hermann took over the management of S.P. Gerz's company. Initially, the company produced a large amount of traditional pottery, such as beer jugs, punch bowls, and mugs. After the war, during the "ceramic boom" of the 1950s and 1960s, the company experienced a period of strong growth. From 1930 to the late 1980s, D&B was one of the leading ceramic factories. Beer jug production peaked between 1890 and the 1930s. Beer jug production ceased in 1957. A series of unique vases was designed and can be recognized by the "RELIEF" logo on the bottom. In the late 1960s, a copper-colored glaze was developed, incorporating fine copper particles. This creates a shimmering effect in the light. The quality of most vases is very high. No vase was ever allowed to leave the factory with anything wrong with it. Dümler & Breiden was very successful but lagged behind the market leaders of the time, Ruscha and Scheurich. The company closed in 1995. Dümler & Breiden. Rathausstraße 56/57, Bahnhofstraße 39/41, then Schulstraße 8/10, Höhr, Hesse-Nassau, Prussia. (later Höhr-Grenzhausen, Rhineland-Palatinate). Artificial Stoneware and Zinngiesserei. Designers employed by Dümler & Breiden, besides Peter Dümler, included Paul Zimmerling from 1951 to 1961 and again from 1968 to 1973; and Rudolf Christmann from 1952 to 1966. He later moved to Carstens. Also employed were Rudolf Kügler and Albin Camillo Müller. Joh. Korzilius was the sales representative at Dümler & Breiden. Source: Dümler & Breiden – fatlava-Schiedam
