Impressive painting, oil on canvas on panel (maroufflé) by Jean van der Ouderaa 1841-1915. Signed and dated lower right P. VD Ouderaa. The quality of the composition and the atmosphere evoked by the figure are a testament to the qualities of this painter. Van de Ouderaa studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and was taught by the historical painter Nicaise de Keyser. As a painter he received many commissions at home and abroad. He achieved great success in portraits. His paintings radiate feeling and warmth. He won many prizes at exhibitions in Rome, Berlin, Amsterdam and Lyon. Van der Ouderaa caused a stir at the international art exhibition in Vienna with his painting "the mouth kiss." Due to the high technical perfection and the particularity of the representation, the painting was constantly surrounded by admiring and curious people.Many of his works can be found in museums internationally.
