Designed in 1927, the MR10 is one of the foundational objects of twentieth-century furniture design and one of the reference points of Bauhaus design. Mies van der Rohe's cantilever construction — a loop of tubular steel that replaces the traditional four-legged structure — was a radical proposition at the time, translating engineering logic into pure formal elegance, distinguishing this model from older American patents by making the large semicircular front runners both a formal and functional feature, their purpose being to make the chair pleasantly resilient.
This pair presents the armless MR10 variant in chromed tubular steel with black laced leather seat and back — a constructive detail that is both structural and decorative, and one of the distinguishing features of earlier and quality productions of this design. The chrome retains good reflectivity and the overall structure is excellent, with the leather showing patina consistent with age.
Dimensions (HxWxD): 79cm x 50cm x 65cm - Seating height: 44cm
The chairs are attributed to Knoll International, which has held the licence for authorised production of the MR series since the postwar period. Unfortunately labels have disappeared over time.
Sold as a set of two, but more MR10 chairs are available: we have another set of 2 and a set of 6 available. Don’t hesitate to contact us to inquire about purchasing more than 2 pieces or when you would have any questions about this set.
