Nicolaas Hubertus van Bekkum from Rotterdam was born on June 29, 1936 in Maasstad. From 1957 to 1961 he studied 'Drawing and painting' at the Academy of Visual Arts in Rotterdam, where Aart Glansdorp was his teacher. He mainly paints, watercolors and draws (industrial) landscapes, flower still lifes, city and harbor views. His field of work is preferably in Rotterdam, South Holland, Flanders and the Normandy coast. He spent a lot of time with artists Charles and Maarten Kemper, Kees Franse, Ciano Siewert and Ad Kikkert. Nico van Bekkum is not influenced by modernist movements and has always gone his own way as a realist but also as a romantic.
