Product description
This experimental original painting features a shimmering color study in a complementary color grid. The extravagant color palette lends the painting a powerful luminosity and makes it a perfect fit for any modern and contemporary setting. Combine two or three paintings in the same style to give your gallery wall a highly decorative and distinctive look. Painted with highly pigmented Sennelier artist-grade acrylic paints on canvas, stretched on a solid wood frame. The signature and date are located on the back. The painter Klaus Soppe has been exploring the interplay of complementary colors for several years. In Soppe's first series, "Back Nudes," the background, griddled with complementary colors, creates an intangible color field within the partially realistic painting. This creates an atmospheric space in the viewer's eye, allowing the realistically painted portion of the image to stand out spatially. In his second series of paintings, "Variations on Paul's Apples," Soppe takes up Paul Cézanne's apple still life series and translates some of Cézanne's motifs into his own complementary painting style. The result is a series of images with a bold, graphic quality. Through the deliberate use of complementary colors, the motifs appear three-dimensional upon closer inspection. Three-dimensional vision arises in the viewer's mind through perception with both eyes. In Soppe's painting, a three-dimensional effect is created solely through the use of complementary grids. This allows the images to be perceived as three-dimensional. The Neo-Impressionists, such as Georges Seurat, Paul Signac, Théo von Rysselberghe, and Anna Boch, already employed a color grid in their painting. Also known as Pointillism, they developed luminous color fields with an atmospheric effect through finely gridded and dotted pure colors. Soppe further develops this technique through the conscious use of complementary colors and coarse grids, making his paintings glow with almost garish colors reminiscent of Pop Art. With self-irony, Soppe dubs his style "Pop Neo-Impressionism." 1987 Began studying painting and applied graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich, under Prof. Robin Page. 1990 Received an art scholarship from the Danner Foundation. 1991 Received an art scholarship from the Carliter Foundation. 1992–1993 Master student under Prof. Robin Page. 1993 Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich, with a diploma in painting and applied graphics. Since 1989, has worked as a freelance painter. From 2011 to 2016, he was a lecturer at the Montessori Vocational College for Design. Since 1990, he has participated in various solo and group exhibitions. From 2018 to 2025, he was a member of the Munich Artists' Association. Regular exhibitions at home and abroad. Lives and works with his wife, the painter Sandra Kolondam, near Landshut.
