Product description
This Knoll Antimott sofa, produced in Germany during the 1960s, is an excellent example of European mid-century modern design with clear Scandinavian influences. Models from the Antimott series appeared under the Wilhelm Knoll / Walter Knoll name and today remain among the rarer examples of German furniture design from the period. Very little documented information about the series has survived, but vintage catalogues and archival listings confirm its characteristic construction based on a light wooden frame and loose cushions with distinctly modernist proportions. The frame is crafted from solid teak wood with a warm tone and beautiful natural grain. Slim armrests and gently tapered legs give the sofa a visually light appearance despite its full three-seat size. The frame has been professionally and carefully restored by removing old coatings, staining and finishing with varnish. The restoration was carried out by a talented and experienced carpenter with over 20 years of experience. The cushions were re-upholstered in a beige fabric made from recycled wool. Thanks to these treatments, the sofa looks stunning and will serve its new owner for many years without fear of damage or wear and tear from everyday use. Stylistically, the sofa belongs to the mid-century modern movement, while also reflecting the strong influence Danish design had on German manufacturers during the 1960s. The form is restrained and functional, with no unnecessary decoration—only carefully balanced proportions and everyday comfort. Loose seat and back cushions, characteristic of the Antimott series, give the sofa a more relaxed lounge-like feel. This is a piece that works equally well in contemporary interiors and more classic vintage spaces. The open wooden structure prevents the sofa from feeling visually heavy, while the generously proportioned cushions provide comfortable, natural support. Its understated form makes it versatile enough for a living room, lounge area, or office interior. Wilhelm Knoll and Walter Knoll were among the most important German furniture manufacturers of the 20th century. The company became known for combining German craftsmanship with Scandinavian modernist influences, helping define post-war European furniture design. Today, the Antimott series remains one of the more distinctive and lesser-known examples of that aesthetic.
