Manufacturer Cappellini Designer Marcel Wanders Colors sand/carbon Material carbon, aramid fiber cord, resin Depth / Length 64 cm. Width 53 cm. Height 73 cm. Regular retail price €3700-€3800 The Knotted chair by Marcel Wanders is one of the most famous design chairs designed by a Dutchman. It meant the big breakthrough of Marcel Wanders. The Knotted chair is made of knotted rope. The chair was then hung upside down in a coated bath. This allows the chair to keep its shape. In 1997 he won the Rotterdam design prize with it. Marcel Wanders developed the chair in 1996 during the Dry Tech project of Droog design. The knotted chair looks like a fairly large armchair in photos, in reality it is only a very small chair and is more of an art object than a utensil. Marcel Wanders 'macrameed' his Knotted Chair from a cord consisting of ultra-strong aramid and ultra-light carbon fibre. The button was given an invisible construction by soaking it in epoxy (synthetic resin) and allowing it to harden. Backrest and seat are given their shape at Wanders by hanging the armchair to dry. The resulting sturdy armchair weighs only 1.4 kilos and can be lifted by one little finger. The shape refers to the design technique of the Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí, who worked with suspended chain models in the early twentieth century. The 'Knotted Chair' was created during the Dry Tech project, which the design platform Droog Design set up in collaboration with TU Delft. The chair soon became an icon of the Droog collection and of Dutch Design Style. Since the mid-1990s, Dutch designers have created international furore under the name Dutch Design Style with designs in which the concept, unusual combinations of materials and techniques and unexpected functionalities are central. I'm selling it because I've moved and moved to a smaller house, I don't have any pkek for it anymore. It has never been used and has always been in the box with certificate of authenticity.
